People love to be trendy, usually without ever admitting it. We love to know what is popular and many people just love trying new foods. In the early months of every year a lot of blogs and food critics like to take their best guesses at what they think will be popular food trends in the coming year. Today let’s take a look at food trends of 2025 and see if they have panned out now that we are into the month of September.
I have to agree that this one is on the rise especially with the subscription boxes based on various countries. We have used them in our schooling sessions and know many others who have too. Plus they are just fun to have around. These make great talking points around the dinner table and they are just fun, so I would say they are definitely still trending.
I love something with a good crunch. It is just so satisfying. From crispy grains and granola to sprouted and fermented nuts to roasted chickpeas and mushroom chips — consumers are increasingly reaching for these items to enhance meals and add texture to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Brands are creating crunchier versions of the ever-popular chili crisp, while new seasonings marketed for their texture are stars of salads and roasted veggies. Dehydrated fruits and candy are taking over social media, with consumers seeking that light, airy crunch. This trending texture can also be seen in beverages and desserts, like crème brûlée espresso martinis or pistachio-topped pastries.
Yes that sounds silly. We all know to drink our water, but there has been an explosion of new hydration trends and even celebs are jumping on the train to monetize on them. The bottles that hold flavor pods are all the rage and the little packets that you add to water bottles are everywhere. There is even a “water Tok” trend on TikTok and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.
I would say that this one is regional. We are from the south where the tea is usually served super sweet and over ice, but I know in many other areas the tea is served piping hot and an entire occasion is made out of it.
This trend is here to stay as many people learned how easy it is to make their own bread at home with very few ingredients. Sourdough and its craze really ramped up during Covid when we were all like puppies learning new tricks at home to save our sanity. Since then people have really made sourdough and its discard into something to write home about. Some of my favorites are discard cinnamon rolls and homemade pastries.
These are everywhere and where once popular at local markets we are now seeing them in chain stores by popular brands, especially candy. I was a total skeptic, but I have to admit that a piece of freeze dried salt water taffy sure hits the spot every now and then.
This trend seems to be getting more and more attention. Spicy varieties of everything seem to exist now and it’s hard to avoid if you are not really a fan. Kids are partaking in food challenges with spicy things and adults are right there with them. Restaurants are jumping on the bandwagon too, but more about that in another article.
Whether you are looking to try something new or continue to love on new favorites food trends seem to be where its at these days, especially on social media. I have to admit that I have been influenced many times this year to try things that I may have never tried.
