More Deep brand frozen products have been added to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) outbreak investigation recall list! What started out as a Salmonella outbreak linked to two sprouted beans, has evolved into a huge recall, potentially multiple Salmonella strains, several deaths, and hospitalizations.
How many people are sick in this Salmonella outbreak? What products are being recalled? How do you know if you have a Salmonella infection? Will there be more illnesses?
Here’s what we know about the Salmonella outbreak and recall of Deep brand frozen products so far!
More than 60 deep brand frozen products have been recalled following an investigation into a Salmonella outbreak in July 2025. Sick people reported eating sprouted Mat (Moth) and Moong (Mung) beans.
Overall, there have been 11 Salmonella Anatum illnesses across ten states. Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington state. At least four people were sick enough to require hospitalization.
Once the Salmonella Anatum outbreak was associated with Deep brand products, additional imported products have been detained for testing and analysis before being released into the U.S. marketplace.
Since then, several Deep brand frozen products have tested positive for Salmonella and have been refuse entry into the United States.
Not all products testing positive for Salmonella matched the outbreak strain. For example, some Deep brand frozen sprouted Moong (Mung) beans tested positive for Salmonella Bareilly. A sample of frozen sprouted Moth (Mat) beans tested positive for Salmonella Teka.
At import, a sample of Deep brand frozen Singoda (Water Chestnut) also tested positive for a non-outbreak strain of Salmonella. This product was refused entry into the United States.
These strains to not appear on the active or archived FDA outbreak investigation page. However, there are two Salmonella outbreaks without a known source. Including a Salmonella Enteritidis and a Salmonella Oranienburg outbreak.
If you have recently become sick after eating recalled Deep brand frozen products, including lots that have not been included in this recall, you may have a Salmonella infection.
Only specialized laboratory tests can actually confirm this illness. However, certain symptoms are common experienced.
Symptoms may include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, often beginning somewhere between 6 hours to 6 days after exposure. Illness typically lasts around 4 to 7 days.
For most, medical intervention is not necessary. However, some people may experience complications requiring a trip to the doctor’s office. Some infections are so severe, sick patients require hospitalization to recover. Others may not recover at all and succumb to complications.

Dehydration is a serious issue with illnesses involving diarrhea and vomiting.
Salmonella infections should be taken very seriously. Serious, life-threatening complications may develop.
