Member’s Mark Super Greens Is Making People Sick! Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Moringa Leaf Powder!

Member’s Mark Super Greens has been identified as the source of a recent Salmonella outbreak. Or rather, an ingredient used to make it.

According to the label, the super food supplement is packed with all kinds of good things. It has 24 vitamins and minerals as well as three beneficial mushrooms. It touts a nutrient packed blend of 16 greens, fruits, and vegetables.

But like the proverbial apple, one bad ingredient spoils the batch. In this case, the tainted fruit is the normally healthy moringa leaf powder. Moringa is a natural herb touted for it’s medicinal benefits. A likely truth if it wasn’t, in this case, contaminated with Salmonella. So far it has caused several illnesses and hospitalizations.  A few others have experienced Salmonella illness as well. Additional, unreported illnesses are also likely.

Here’s what we know so far about the Member’s Mark Super Greens Salmonella outbreak and how to know if you have a Salmonella infection.

Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder

As of October 31, 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have confirmed 11 illnesses associated with Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder. At least three people have been hospitalized for their illnesses. So far, there have been no deaths reported.

Cases have been reported in the states of Florida, Kansas, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

The product was distributed to Sam’s store locations nationwide. So, additional states may report cases as the investigation unfolds.

Member’s Mark Super Greens Outbreak Investigation

The FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with state and local partners have been investigating this multistate Salmonella Richmond outbreak. Through traceback investigations, a single lot of moringa leaf powder supplied to the United State by Vallon Farm Direct PVT LTD of Johdpur, India was identified as the original source of the tainted product.

This was uncovered after nine of the ten people interviewed reported eating a powdered dietary supplement. Six people specifically indicated Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder. Three others said they consumed products containing moringa leaf powder.

All eight points of sale from outbreak patient data pointed to a direct importer of organic moringa leaf powder.

Further supporting evidence came from an open package of moringa leaf powder obtained from a patient’s home. The Virginia Department of Health collected a sample of this product, which later revealed the presence of Salmonella bacteria. Genetic analysis of this bacterium was a match to outbreak patient samples.

In Michigan, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development collected a sample from an open package of Member’s Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder. It too tested positive for Salmonella bacteria and was a genetic match to the outbreak strain.

In response, a recall was announced.

How sick do people get from Salmonella infections?

Some people may only experience mild illnesses. Others could have more severe symptoms or even life-threatening complications.

Symptoms of Salmonella infection usually involve nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, and fever.

People usually begin feeling sick anywhere from 6 hours to 6 days after exposure. Most of the time people feel better within a week.

Most normally healthy people recover on their own without medical assistance. Severity, however, can vary from person to person.

In some cases, the germ can get into the bloodstream and cause additional, potentially life-threatening complications. You may develop arterial infections (infected aneurysms), endocarditis, or a condition known as reactive arthritis that can persist long-term) among others.

If You Do Get Sick, How Do You Treat Salmonella Infections

Those with mild Salmonella infections treat illness by managing dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids and monitor symptoms. Seek medical attention if you experience diarrhea lasting more than two days or experience a fever higher than 102° F.

Those in higher risk groups, such as children under 5 years of age, those taking certain medications such as stomach acid reducers, adults over 65 years of age, and people with a weakened immune system may require antibiotic treatment.

Have You Become Sick with Salmonella Symptoms Recently?

If you have become sick with Salmonella symptoms recently, you may be part of a larger Salmonella outbreak. If you have consumed Member’s Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder recently, you could be a part of this outbreak.

This type of illness can take a toll. Both on the body and the bank account. Medical bills, missed work, the stress of caring for a sick loved one, and other burdens associated with foodborne illness add up.
