Moringa Leaf Powder Recall Expands Amid Salmonella Outbreak

More moringa leaf powder supplements have been recalled. Since the initial discovery of a Salmonella outbreak linked to the superfood supplement, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), along with state and local partners, have been looking for answers.

As more information has become available, additional recalls have been announced. Three other products may be tainted with the serious and sometimes life-threatening bacterial contamination – Salmonella.

Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Moringa Leaf Powder

The Salmonella outbreak linked to moringa leaf powder has been associated with three illnesses so far. At least three people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

As of November 13, 2025 there are seven states with cases linked to this outbreak. Florida, Kansas, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

When the Make Food Safe Blog first reported on this outbreak, initial reports pointed to Members Mark brand Super Greens and their supplier. Since then, additional products have been added to the list.

What Moringa Leaf Powder Products Are Being Recalled?

In addition to the initial recall of all Members Mark Super Greens dietary supplement powder (regardless of lot codes and best by/use before dates), three others have been recalled in connection to this Salmonella outbreak due to a common supplier.

Vallon Farmdirect organic moringa leaf powder from Johdpur, India. This original lot (Batch No.: VFD/ORG/MORP/24) with a best by date of November 2027 has been linked to all illnesses in the traceback investigation.

Other specific products include:

  • Food To Live brand – distributed nationwide through retail and wholesale channels, on the Food To Live Website, and on e-commerce websites including Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Target, Etsy, and eBay
    • ORGANIC MORINGA LEAF POWDER (8-ounce, 1-pound, 4-pound, 8-pound, and 44-pound bags) with lot codes of SO-69006 through SO-72558
    • ORGANIC SUPERGREENS POWDER MIX (8-ounce, 1-pound, 1.5-pound, 3-pound, 6-pound, and 12-pound bags) with lot codes of SO-69006 through SO-72558
  • Organic Moringa Leaf Powder (1-kilogram box) sold on Africa Imports’ website (africaimports.com) after 06/05/2025.

What Should I Do If I Consumed Recalled Moringa Leaf Powder?

What should you do?

First, bag up and clearly label product so that no one in your household will consume the product. Note lot numbers as this information may be important later.

Monitor for symptoms. Get medical help right away if you begin to feel sick with symptoms consistent with Salmonella infection.

How Do I Know If I Have Salmonella from Moringa Leaf Powder?

If you have consumed recalled moringa leaf powder you may have been exposed to Salmonella bacteria.

Salmonella illnesses, like most foodborne infections, occur on a spectrum. Some people do not get very sick and have mild symptoms. Others may experience more severe illness or even die from complications. This is more likely to occur in certain higher risk groups like children under five years old, infants (that are not breast fed), and people taking certain medications, such as acid reducers. Infants, adults over 65 years old, and those with a weakened immune system are more likely to experience severe symptoms if infected.

Common symptoms include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Stomach cramps

Most people experience symptoms in as little as six hours and up to six days after exposure. In some cases, illness onset could be much longer.

Severity and length of illness often vary from person to person. Most people experience mild illnesses that passes quickly. Others may experience severe illness lasting weeks or even months after initial symptoms.

Most people, however, feel better within a week (four to seven days).

If you become sick, retained product may be tested to determine if it contains the outbreak strain of Salmonella bacteria.

Salmonella Complications

Most of the time Salmonella bacteria are limited to the intestinal tract. However, in some cases, the bacteria can breach the intestinal wall and enter the bloodstream capillaries and veins found there. When this happens, bacteria may infect the urinary tract, blood, bones, joints, and even the nervous system.

Salmonella infections should be taken very seriously. Serious, life-threatening complications may develop.

  • Endocarditis: This is a type of infection affecting the lining of the heart and/or valves.
  • Meningitis: This is a type of infection affecting the tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
  • Osteomyelitis: This type of infection affects the bones and/or bone marrow.
  • Reactive arthritis: This type of infection causes inflammation of the joints, eyes, reproductive organs, and/or urinary organs.

What Should You Do If You Become Sick in This Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Moringa Leaf Powder?

If you may have become sick from Salmonella linked to moringa leaf powder, there are a few things that you can do to help your situation.

Disinfect Your Kitchen

If you discover you have recalled moringa leaf powder in your home, you should disinfect anything that they may have come in contact with.

Disinfect your counters, pantry shelves, cups that you have used to prepare the product in, and anything that may have come into contact with the product to prevent further bacterial spread.

Be sure to wash your hands afterward.

Seek Medical Attention or Report Your Illness

If you begin having symptoms consistent with a Salmonella infection, seek medical attention right away. If you are not sick enough to need medical care, it is still a good idea to report your illness to your local health department.
