A Salmonella outbreak at Ramsey’s Diner linked to Missy’s Pies has sickened at least 10 people so far. Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (LFCHD) officials are actively investigating this outbreak to track down the source of these illnesses.
A recent news release from the Health Department asks for the community’s help in this investigation.
Here’s what we know so far about the Salmonella outbreak at Ramsey’s Diner linked to Missy’s Pies.
A cluster of Salmonella illnesses was reported to the LFCHD on June 27, 2025. This prompted an outbreak investigation.
As of July 2, 2025, ten confirmed cases with Salmonella infections have been reported in the area around Fayette County. Four from Fayette County, two from Jessamine County, two from Mercer County, one from Fleming County, and one out-of-state resident.
During the Health Department traceback investigation, outbreak patients were interviewed to identify what food items people ate prior to becoming sick.
Every sick person indicated that they ate at least one meal at one of the four Ramsey’s Diner locations between June 17, 2025 and June 20, 2025.
Entrée items varied from person to person. However, each consumed either a custard-based pie topped with meringue or a cheesecake dessert.
The Health Department does not currently have an official source for this Salmonella outbreak at Ramsey’s Diner and Missy’s Pies. But eggs are considered a potential and likely suspect.
All pies implicated in patient interviews were made with eggs.
Missy’s Pies supplies all four Ramsey’s Diner location’s dessert pie menu. The bakery offers pie pickups at their bakery location as well.
Potentially contaminated custard-based, meringue, and cheesecake pies were available for sale at the following locations:
Lexington-Fayette County Health Department performed an inspection of the common kitchen where pies were prepared. Samples of both eggs and finished pies were collected for testing to be completed by the state public health laboratory.
Once pies were discarded and thorough kitchen cleaning activities were performed, the establishment was allowed to reopen to prepare lower risk items.
For now, Missy’s Pies will only offer shelf stable fruit pies and other pies without eggs as a filling ingredient.

Only specialized laboratory tests can confirm Salmonella infections. However, certain symptoms are common for Salmonella infections.
Symptoms may include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, often beginning somewhere between 6 hours to 6 days after exposure. Illness typically lasts around 4 to 7 days.
For most, medical intervention is not necessary. However, some people may experience complications requiring a trip to the doctor’s office. Some infections are so severe, sick patients require hospitalization.

The outbreak investigation is ongoing as the Health Department narrows down the source of the Salmonella outbreak. But they have asked for your help.
