Reports of Legionnaires’ Disease at the Wynn Las Vegas Has Southern Nevada Health District Requesting Guests to Complete Health Survey!

Posted in Legionella,Legionnaire's disease,Our Blog,Outbreaks & Recalls on April 30, 2026

Following reports of at least two cases of Legionnaires’ disease at the Wynn Las Vegas, the Southern Nevada Health District has requested guests recently staying at the hotel to fill out a health survey.

Additionally, during follow up Legionella testing, the Health District found the deadly bacteria in the facility’s water system. With multiple samples testing positive.

Here’s what we know so far about Legionnaires’ disease at the Wynn Las Vegas.

Legionnaires’ Disease at the Wynn Las Vegas

The Southern Nevada Health District is currently investigating two travel-related cases of Legionnaires’ disease in guests who stayed at the Wynn Las Vegas.

One person reported staying at the property in September 2025. The other stayed in February 2026. Both patients have since recovered from their illnesses.

Sampling Activities Revealed the Presence of Legionella Bacteria in Facility Water Systems

When two or more cases of Legionnaires’ disease are reported within a year, most health departments initiate an investigation and collect environmental samples. According to a press release, “multiple samples tested positive for Legionella, the bacteria that can cause Legionnaires’ disease.”

Following this discovery, the Wynn Las Vegas “initiated immediate and comprehensive water system remediation measures.” Following those actions, the most recently collected environmental samples indicate “no detectable levels of Legionella in the affected areas.” Additionally, the property says that they will continue to follow up with additional testing to ensure its water systems remain safe.

Meanwhile, the facility is cooperating with the Health District’s investigation and directly notifying guests of their potential Legionnaires’ disease exposure.

Travel-Related Legionnaires’ Disease Often Takes Time to Connect Legionnaires’ Disease Clusters

When staying at vacation-centered hotels like the Wynn Las Vegas, it can sometimes take time for Legionnaires’ disease clusters to be connected. This is because Legionnaires’ disease is often unreported. It presents as a typical pneumonia-like illness. Without specific laboratory tests, the patient will not receive a proper Legionnaires’ disease diagnosis.

For those who are tested, the patient is generally asked where they have been over the past few weeks. This is typically where a Legionnaire’s disease cluster is discovered. The local health department notifies the health department where the patient visited a higher-risk space (like a large hotel with cooling towers or complicated water systems). Which is likely what occurred in this situation.

Health District Urges Guests to Complete Confidential Health Survey Following Reports of Legionnaires’ disease at the Wynn Las Vegas

The Southern Nevada Health District is urging guests who stayed at the Wynn Las Vegas on or after September 1, 2025 to fill out a confidential illness survey.

Even if your symptoms were mild or have completely resolved, your experience may help public officials better understand the situation. There may be additional illnesses which have not been connected to this disease cluster.

If you are currently experiencing symptoms, the Health District urges you to seek medical attention right away and inform your health care provider of your potential exposure. Prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment often results in better outcomes.

What is Legionnaires’ Disease?

Legionnaires’ disease is caused by inhaling microscopic Legionella bacteria suspended in aerosolized water droplets. Essentially water mist. Inhaling this mist can move these waterborne bacteria into your lungs where they can cause infection.

Where Does Legionnaires’ Disease Come From?

Certain human-made water systems are better suited for growing and spreading harmful Legionella bacteria. But anything that generates a mist or spray can spread bacteria.

Some of the more common sources of Legionnaires’ disease include:

  • Hot tubs
  • Hot water tanks and heaters
  • Showerheads and sink faucets
  • Decorative fountains and water features
  • Large, complex plumbing systems
  • Plumbing systems under construction or with dead legs
  • Cooling towers such as those used in large buildings air-cooling systems or industrial processes

How Do You Know If You Have Legionnaires’ Disease?

If you have recently stayed at the Wynn Las Vegas and recently fell sick, you may be wondering if it is connected to this potential Legionnaires’ disease outbreak.

The only way to know for sure if your illness is Legionnaires’ disease and not some other respiratory illness is a specialized laboratory test. If you are experiencing Legionnaires’ disease symptoms, reach out to your health care provider and inform them of your recent exposure.

Symptoms

Legionnaires’ disease generally produces respiratory and flu-like symptoms.

Common symptoms of Legionnaires’ disease include:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Headaches

These symptoms usually begin around 2 to 14 days after exposure. However, in some cases, illness may take longer to present.

Other symptoms may include diarrhea, nausea, and/or confusion.

Who is at Risk?

Anyone exposed to Legionella bacteria is at risk of contracting Legionnaires’ disease. However, there are some groups of people who are more likely to become sick if exposed, or experience more serious illness if they become sick.

Those at increased risk include:

  • People aged 50 years or older
  • Current or former smokers
  • Those with chronic lung disease
  • People with weakened immune systems
  • People who take drugs that can weaken their immune systems (after a transplant operation or chemotherapy)
  • People with underlying illnesses like diabetes, kidney failure, or liver failure.

What Should You Do if You Are Experiencing Symptoms and Recently Exposed to Legionnaires’ Disease at the Wynn Las Vegas?

Legionnaires’ disease symptoms should be taken very seriously. Most Legionnaires’ disease cases require hospitalization. These illnesses can be fatal. In fact, 1 in 10 individuals with Legionnaires’ disease will die from complications of their illness. In a health care setting, this risk elevates to 1 in 4.

If you begin experiencing symptoms of Legionnaires’ disease around two weeks after visiting, staying at, or working at the Wynn Las Vegas, there are a few things you should do.

Accurate Diagnosis is Key to Faster Recovery

Legionnaires’ disease can be treated with normal pneumonia treatments. However, accurate diagnosis is key for faster recovery.

If you begin experiencing symptoms, reach out to your healthcare provider right away. Notify them of your recent exposure risk to help expedite appropriate laboratory tests.

Specialized treatment protocols specifically for Legionella bacterial infections will aid in faster recovery and much better outcomes. The faster diagnosis is determined and treatment administered, the better your chances for full recovery.

Make a List

This information is often requested by local health authorities in the form of a list of places you have stayed or visited in the weeks prior to your illness.

It is a good idea to make this list as soon as you feel well enough to do so. This will help ensure it is as accurate as possible. If you have stayed at the Wynn Las Vegas, receipts and emails documenting your stay are also helpful to have on hand.
