Ruiz Food Products, Inc. Recalls Frozen Breakfast Burritos Due to Mechanical Contamination

Ruiz Food Products, Inc issued a recall on May 31, 2018 for about 50,706 pounds of frozen breakfast burritos because they may be contaminated with extraneous material. If product contains non-food material, it may be harmful if consumed.

The product was produced on March 3, 2018 and can be identified as El Monterey Signature Burritos, Egg, Sausage, Cheese & Potato in a 12-count package of 4.5 ounce individually wrapped and frozen packages and bears establishment number EST. 17523A. See chart below for specific lot information.

The recall was initiated after complaints of consumers finding “white, semi-rigid plastic pieces in the product.”  There have been no reports of illness or injury connected to the product.  While the product should already be removed from store shelves at retail locations, consumers who have the products in their freezers are urged to discard the product or return to place of purchase.

Eddy Packaging Co., Inc. Recalls Smoked Sausage Product Due to Mechanical Contamination

Eddy Packaging Co., Inc. of Yoakum, Texas issued a recall on May 31, 2018 for about 18,390 pounds of smoked sausage because they may be contaminated with extraneous material. If product contains non-food material, it may be harmful if consumed.

The product was produced on March 14, 2018 and can be identified as a 10 pound case of Carl’s Pork and Beef Smoked Sausage with a Stick and bears an establishment number EST 4800.  See chart below for specific lot information.

The recall was initiated after complaints of a customer that a “soft, green plastic material was found in the product.”  There have been not been reports of illness or injury connected to the product. While the product should already be removed from store shelves at retail locations, consumers who have the products in their freezers are urged to discard the product or return to place of purchase.

Supermercado Selectos Recalls Raw, Frozen Meat and Poultry Product Due to Lack of Inspection

Supermercado Selectos of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico issued a recall on June 2, 2018 for about 15,315 pounds of various raw, frozen beef, pork and poultry products because they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection.

The indicated products include raw, frozen beef, pork, chicken, and turkey items that were produced from August 2017 to May 31, 2018.  See chart below for specific product information.  The items were shipped to DGA Food Service, LLC and then distributed to Head Start Child and Adult Care Food Programs in Puerto Rico.

While the products were purchased commercially and the USDA provides reimbursement for meals served by the program, the “meat and poultry products were not provided or purchased by USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service.”

The problem was discovered on May 23, 2018 when Food Safety Investigative Services (FSIS) were performing routine inspection.  There have been no confirmed illness or injury in connection to this recall.  While FSIS has made efforts to be sure the product is no longer available to the consumer, some products may still be in consumers refrigerators or freezers.  Consumers are urged to discard the product or return to the place of purchase.

Goodman Food Products Recalls Fully Cooked Ground Beef Products Due to Mechanical Contamination

Goodman Food Products of Mansfield, Texas issued a recall on June 4, 2018 for about 34,400 pounds of fully cooked ground beef products because they may be contaminated with extraneous material.  If product contains non-food material, it may be harmful if consumed.

The recall was initiated after a consumer complaint of a “hard, white plastic material found in the fully cooked ground beef products” was received.  There have been no reports of illness or injury connected with this recall.  While the product should already be removed from distribution, some of the product may still be in school freezers or refrigerators.  School nutrition professional who have purchased these products are urged to throw them away or return to the place of purchase.
