Posted in Outbreaks & Recalls,Salmonella on August 20, 2018

MakeFoodSafe.com would like to help you keep your family safe from unsafe foods.  Each week we bring together a list of the current recalls.  Some recalls are issued due to undeclared allergens, which could cause serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if someone sensitive to the product consumes it.  Other recalls are issued due to contamination with harmful material or other health risk.  Check back often and evaluate your fridge, pantry, and shopping list to make sure you can identify which foods to avoid.

This week’s recalls include:

Country Favor Inc. Recalls Snack Ginger Food Treats

Country Favor Inc., of Maspeth New York issued a recall on August 6, 2018 for their 7 ounce packages of “Best Taste Brand Snack Ginger Sliced” food treats due to the undeclared allergen, sulfites. Consumers who have a severe sensitivity to sulfites risk serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.  Some individuals may experience an autoimmune reaction common with sensitivities to sulfites.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Market Food Inspectors revealed the presence of sulfites in the product.  This information was not declared on the label.  Asthmatics may experience severe reactions with consumption of just 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving.  This same 10 milligrams may also generate an anaphylactic shock in those who are sensitive to sulfites.  The analysis results determined the “Best Taste Brand Snack Ginger Sliced” snack treat contained 94.8 milligrams per serving.

The product can be identified as labeled wit “Best Taste Brand Snack Ginger Sliced” and coming in a 7 ounce flexible plastic package.  There is not coding or lot information present on the packaging.
